Chinnar
Wildlife Sanctuary |

Located
in the rain shadow region of the western ghats,
the sanctary occupies the forested region on either
side of the Marayoor - Udumalped road. This is
the second habitat of the endangered giant grizzled
squirrel of india. The location of sanctuary offers
the unique advantage of watching its fascinating
wildlife at close quarters from the road without
venturing deep into the jungle. The Marayoor sandal
forest and the beautiful Thoovanam waterfalls
are located here.

is one of the wettest regions of the world. Rainfall
: 4500 mm. Frost is common in the winter months
- december to february. 15 Km North Of Munnar.
Established In 1975 To Protect The Nilgiri Tahr,
The Eravikulam Sanctuary Was Declared A National
Park In 1978 Considering Its Ecological, Faunal,
Floral, Geomorphological And Zoological Significance.
The Park Is Breathtakingly Beautiful And Comparable
To The Alpine Ranges. This Land Of The Neelakurinji
Is 7 Km From The Rajamalai Hills. |

Idukki
Wildlife Sanctuary |

40 kms from
Thodupuzha town. Spread over the Thodupuzha and
Udumpanchola taluks of Idukki district, the sanctuary
was formed in 1976. The Idukki arch dam, the first
major hydroelectric project in Kerala, is situated
here. The 33 sq.km scenic lake around the santruary
- the Idukki reservoir - is formed by the three
dams Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamavu.

Kumarakom
Bird Sanctuary |

| Located
on the banks of the vembanad lake, the kumarakom
bird sanctuary, an ornithologist's paradise, is
a favourite haunt of migratory birds like the siberian
stork, egret, darter, heron and teal. Other common
varieties like the woodpecker, skylark, crane, water
hen and parrots can also be spotted here. A cruise
along the vembabad lake is the best way to experience
the sanctuary. Pathiramanal, an enchanting island
on the lake, can be accessed by boat from here. |

Periyar
Wildlife Sanctuary |

within the confines of the Western Ghats in the
southern Indian state of Kerala, Periyar National
Park and Tiger Reserve is one of the most captivating
wildlife parks in the world. In 1895, the British
undertook water resource management plans for the
area and started work on a dam and an artificial
lake under the auspices of Col. J. Pennycuick. |

Silent
Valley National Park |

in the Kundali Hills of the Western Ghats, the Silent
Valley National Park holds a valuable reserve of
rare plants and herbs. The park is rich in its wildlife,
and elephants, lion-tailed macaques and tigers are
the most common denizens of this park. Though smaller
in size in comparison to the other national parks
in India, what makes it different is the sylvan
environment the region has, along with its high
altitude peaks and several rivers that run through
it.

| Thatekkad
Bird Sanctuary is one of the most popular National
Parks of Kerala.This Bird Sanctuary is situated
in the dense tropical evergreen and deciduous
forests and grassland patches. Thattekad Sanctuary
is located in the Kothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam
district on the northern bank of the Periyar River.
The sanctuary was notified in 1983 based on a
recommendation made by Dr. Salim Ali many years
previously. It is a home to a microcosm of India's
bird population with about 500 winged species. |

Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the National Parks
in Kerala spread over an area of 285 sq. kilometers.
The Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is laid with
serene vegetation in a valley between the Annamalai
ranges of Tamil Nadu and the Nelliampathy ranges
of Kerala.A tree house in the Reserved Forest
area in Thunakkadavu has to be booked in advance.
There are two watchtowers one at Anappadi, 8km
from Thunakadavu, and other at Zungam, 5km from
Thunakadavu. |

Peppara
Wildlife Sanctuary |

| Peppara
Wildlife Sanctuary is composed of the dense forests
and the Peppara dam built on the Karamana River
and was declared as a sanctuary in 1983 to increase
the drinking water supply to Thiruvananthapuram
and the adjoining suburbs. Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary
is merged partially with the Palode reserve (24sq.kms)
and the Kottoor reserve (29sq.kms); all the three
together forming the whole of the area covered
by the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary. |
