India Kerala Tours - Tours To Chinnar is a large
wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. Spread over an area
of 90422sq km it was declared as a wildlife sanctuary
in 1984. Situated in the Western Ghat's rain shadowed
portion Chinnar wildlife sanctuary is rich with
rare and endangered species. Chinnar has a scanty
rainfall for only about 48days. Due to this kind
of rainfall and variation in altitude it has a
great range of habitats like deciduous forest,
dry thorny forest, riparian types, shoals and
grasslands along with plains, hillocks, rocks,
cliffs etc. The place is near to Eravikulam National
park and Anamalai Wildlife sanctuary. Xerophyte
species, giant grizzled squirrel and 225 species
of birds are the inhabitants of this sanctuary.
